Cerebral Palsy Orthotic Treatment
Cerebral Palsy Orthotic Treatment
Technology in Motion clinicians are expert in the prescription and orthotic management of musculo skeletal issues arising from cerebral palsy. Our aim is to improve joint range and joint positioning to improve independence in standing and walking during childhood and growth.
Orthotic treatment forms an important part of the whole treatment programme needed by children who have cerebral palsy. The goals of orthotic treatment are to assist function and to control during growth with the overall aims of:
- Correcting and Preventing deformity
- Providing a base of support
- Assist in skills training
- Improving efficiency when walking
- To improve the efficiency of gait
Within these goals there are always some compromises and it is the clinician and therapist’s role to decide which are the over riding considerations when prescribing.
For each child who sees us, we need to consider whether using single rigid bracing, lycra or silicone or a combination of all available will be most appropriate. The clinicians at Technology in Motion work closely with therapists and the best manufacturers to bring about the best outcome for the children that we treat, many of who display the complexity of problems that Cerebral Palsy can bring.
